Biological issues with drinking water are usually derived from the presence of bacteria and other microbes. Such microbes being in your water supply at higher than naturally-occurring levels can can be harmful to humans, animals and plants. Some of these microbes are pathogenic meaning they are disease-causing organisms and others are classed as indicators, meaning that their presence alone signals an issue with the water treatment processes that are in place.
