Aesthetic Properties

The aesthetic properties of water refer to any sensory qualities that it make it nice to look at or enjoyable to experience such as the taste, smell and appearance. Most would associate high-quality drinking water with being clear, odourless and free from any strong taste. Water which has contaminants, however, can cause these factors to change, In some instances, changes to the aesthetic properties of your drinking water can be the first indication that you have an issue and that testing of your water source is necessary.

The aesthetic quality of the water is something immediately apparent to the consumer and is responsible for the vast majority of complaints. It is sometimes listed in terms of organoleptic parameters which relate to the organs of sense. The parameters listed in the E.C. directive include colour, turbidity, odour and taste. Each is considered separately.
